HERITAGE

Heya people!!! We are back with our 3rd post and it is all about the Asian Civilisation Museum(ACM), yay!!! On 21 Nov, last friday we made our way down to the building in the late afternoon. As we entered the building, we were enveloped by an aura of mystery surrounding the place with a traditional feel about it and in the building you could literally taste the richness of Singapore's heritage in the air. Naturally, we got all excited and we proceeded to the exhibitions without any further delay.

We encountered a series of picures and portraits such as the above one which says "neither east nor west' which describes Singapore's mixture of arts from the eastern as well as the western part of the globe.

Next, we were greeted by a huge portrait of China's one and only spiritual leader, Mr. Mao Zedong. Upon seeing him, we just stood there in awe of him and admired his achievements which remains glorified throughout countless of years.

Moving on, we saw an actual size model of a Malay Sampan which could take out 3 to 5 people easily. Way back in the past before Singapore was mordernised, the local Malays used the Sampan as a great mode of transport for getting around the island.

Next, we saw countless of ancient chinese artefacts as well as chinese heritage and all we could do was to stand back and marvel at their beauty. We also saw the traditional costumes of a Chinese wedding and it was really unique in its colour .

Moving on, we came to the Indian heritage! It showed pictures of the Indian family portraits and also their way of dressing. Last but not least, we experienced the Peranakan culture first hand when we walked into the last exhibition hall. We felt like we were transported into another world where everything is all about the Peranakan culture.
Sadly, with limited time we had no choice but to leave such an interesting place behind. We did gain alot of precious knowledge and valuable insights into the different types of culture that make up this cosmopolitan island country. So that's all folks! Till next time then ! BYE - BYE!!!!!!

Hi people! Our field trip to Chinatown and Clarke Quay on 14 Nov, last Friday was really fun and exciting! From the place that is rich in traditional chinese culture in Chinatown to the breath-taking, exotic night life of Clarke Quay, it was truly a very memorable day for our group.

CULTURE AND HERITAGE

Our 1st stop: Outram Park!

Coming out of the station, a scenic view greeted us...immediately we whipped out our handphones and cameras and started snap-shooting away!

One of the many shops which sell really unique antiques. These are very rare in the world and prices don't come cheap!

Then as we reach the heritage centre, we stopped for a group photo. XiaoXuan, the camera woman not in picture. =)

Ox Bone Chopsticks!

The beautiful chinese fans lined up neatly in a row!

And we reach the end of the street...

Chinatown is really a place rich in culture and heritage. As we walked down the buzzing street, we felt a sense of familiarity and belonging there. We were also pleased with the hospitable shop owners who smiled and welcome us into their shops. All of us left Chinatown in satisfaction and with a great deal of knowledge on the Chinese culture.

HERITAGE
And so HERE WE ARE at our next stop:

CLARKE QUAY!

Scenic view of Singapore river from The Central

Our lovely group

Terrence and Huiying around a trishaw. Where's the trishaw rider?

Chinese Restaurants such as Hu Tong can also be found there!

Ice Cream Palours such as this Turkish Ice Cream has stationed themselves there.

High class bar such as this really bring about an exoctic feel in us when we pass by it.

A pub which design its outlook to suits it's theme: 'Clinic'

Clarke Quay is a happening place with a splendid skyline and there, you can see people from all walks of life coming together to 'chill out' in the pubs, clubs and cafes. It is a place with an exciting night-life with restaurants that cater to the different cultures and races. There is a unique feel of Singapore when you're there, a place exhibiting the modernized Singapore. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly as we walked around and explore each and every corner of Clarke Quay! That's all for the day! Hope you have a nice day!

ARTS, HERITAGE AND CULTURE

The largest "durian"; world's most gigantic ferris wheel; a place where different races come together; first F1 night race; beautiful beaches and lush greenery; food haven: Laksa! Chicken rice! Nasi Lemak!; Char Kway Teow!; Popiah! Roti Prata! Bak Kut Teh! Combine all these together and you'll get ...................................... SINGAPORE!!!!

Walking down the buzzling street of Chinatown, we can see a strong traditional chinese heritage surrounding us. The different shophouses lining neatly side by side selling all sorts of souvenirs and antiques. Turning round the corner, here we are, at Clarke Quay! Screams of excitement coming from the Bungee Jump filled the air and there is an exciting night life waited to be experienced! Moving on, we can see the huge durian-like structure greeting us and gradually, we can feel that Arts is in the air... There it is, the Esplanade! After enjoying the arts and music, our stomach starts to grumble and we head down to Lau Pa Sat, the biggest and oldest hawker centre in the heartland. We can find different cusines from all cultures and races. Singapore just never fails to surprise us with its colourful culture, arts and heritage.

In this blog, we will bring you on a journey along the streets of Singapore, understanding different cultures and exploring the uniqueness of this beautiful small island city! Regardless of who you are, where u come from, may you be a tourist or a Singaporean, we hope that you will be able to see Singapore in a different perspective! Come and join us in this exciting journey of all times!
